The Derry Prequel Series Premieres Next Sooner Than Planned on HBO's Digital Service

Audiences are thrilled for the horror series the Derry series, that's been earning acclaim and incorporating references from other Stephen King works. Just one day after launch, the broadcaster announced that the second installment will debut sooner than expected, released fittingly for Halloween.

Schedule Change Particulars

Starting on the last day of October at midnight PT, the next part of the Derry prequel will make its debut on the streaming service, prior to its traditional TV airing. Subsequent episodes of the series run will continue to air on the weekend on the network and streaming service, leading up to the final episode on Sunday, December 14.

Show Background

Based in Stephen King’s It universe, the new series borrows elements from the classic book while building upon the universe brought to life by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. The first It movie focused on young characters facing terrifying threats, thus it's suitable that the prequel follows in those footsteps. However, the debut of HBO’s Welcome to Derry proves it intended to increase the tension, delivering heightened horror than Muschietti’s films and setting a dark atmosphere for the rest of the season.

Story World and Concepts

Taking place in the 1960s, this show introduces a different group of parents and youngsters residing in a apparently peaceful community hiding a sinister core. Derry operates on a brutal, periodic loop—one marked by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a evil entity reappears every 27 years. Even though It: Welcome to Derry might sound like it strays too near to the movies initially, what sets apart the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—told from the perspectives of kids and grown-ups concurrently. The kids remain especially susceptible to the entity's fear, but older characters also face confronting their individual fears stemming from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and hidden paranormal elements.

Episode 2 debuts on the 31st of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
