A Ton of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays
The winter break present a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the latest news: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on delicious food, and employing meditation skills to refrain from yelling at loved ones. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling developments came out during the break, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Truly the biggest revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter the series' continuation. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a good sign. Yet, the promotional image for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, nowadays, they could be mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now everyone is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season
Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not been disclosed yet.
